Resumen:
The purpose of this article is to examine the role of translation and interpreting in various multicultural contexts, emphasizing that these activities are not merely linguistic but have also become instruments of political mediation and ideological positioning. In a multicultural and multilingual country like Mexico, which has 70 official languages and a strategic geographical position that facilitates both the transit and settlement of many migrants, translation and community interpreting have become essential tools for ensuring equitable communication. An analysis of migration trends in Mexico, along with the availability of certified translators and interpreters, reveals a shortage of professionals specializing in both Mexican indigenous languages and the native languages of migrants, such as Haitian Creole. In this multicultural context, translation and interpreting play a crucial role in guaranteeing linguistic rights and promoting a more inclusive society.
