Resumen:
In this work, the performance of one-dimensional TiO2 materials with mixed brookite, anatase, and rutile phases producing hydrogen photocatalytically is reported. These materials showed good photocatalytic activity producing hydrogen, which was significantly enhanced after depositing 1.5 wt% of copper oxide quantum dots (CuO QDs). The structural and morphological properties of the TiO2 base material were defined by the synthesis conditions used during the CuO QD deposition. Material characterization confirmed the presence of CuO QDs. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) revealed CuO QDs ranging from 1.7 to 4.6 nm, and the TiO2 surfaces were found suitable for such deposition at temperatures between 200 and 300 degrees C. Hydrogen production activity was the highest under UV light, while measurable activity was also observed under visible light, which was correlated with the deposited amount of CuO QDs. This fact confirmed the co-catalytic role played by the CuO QDs.
