Resumen:
The photocatalytic activity of materials composed of two or three TiO2 phases (anatase, brookite and rutile), synthesized by hydrothermal processes from hydrogen titanate (H2Ti3O7) nanobelts, is discussed. In this study, heterogeneous photocatalysts in aqueous medium under UV radiation were used to test their activity in the photocatalytic degradation of the drug ibuprofen (IBP). The synthesized materials exhibited, for the most part, better photocatalytic activity and mineralization rate than the reference material, Degussa P25. It was found that materials with phase composition of approximately 75 % brookite and 25 % rutile achieved thorough (100 %) ibuprofen degradation. Additionally, materials consisting of brookite/anatase/rutile phase combinations with fragmented nanobelt morphology displayed the highest mineralization efficiency. The materials were characterized in terms of composition, crystalline phases, morphology, surface area, band gap and charge recombination, using XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence, and XPS, respectively.
