Identificación molecular de la microbiota intestinal cultivable de Epinephelus morio (mero rojo) y su potencial probiótico

Resumen:
The gut microbiota of Epinephelus morio or red grouper might be important for digestion, metabolism and health, however, it has been studied little. In this paper, the culturable gut microbiota of wild red grouper in captivity was identified through 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and its potential as probiotic was studied. Six adult fish between 3-7 kg were used for intestinal content sampling. The molecular identification of gut microbiota was performed based on rRNA16S sequencing and analysis using the RNAcentral, SILVA and GenBank databases (BLASTN). Amylolytic, chitinolytic and proteolytic activity of isolates was determined using specific culture media. 22 isolates were obtained, and bacteria of the phyla Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Actinobacteria were identified. The most frequently isolated species was Photobacteriumdamselae. Two isolates had amylolytic activity and 13 isolates had proteolytic activity; none were positive for chitinolytic activity. Bacillus infantis, Enterococcus faeciumand Shewanella sp. were selected as possible probiotics to include them, in the first instance, in the feeding of captive groupers due to their amylolytic and proteolytic activity. © 2025 INVEMAR.
