Resumen:
I Abstract: The translative dimension of doctrinal texts written by missionaries has been profitably explored during the last decade. Nevertheless, some sources have remained largely untouched by this research viewpoint, as is the case of the grammars. Through an analysis of the translation levels exhibited in Alonso de Molina's Arte de la lengua mexicana y castellana, this paper aims to postulate that missionary grammar can be construed as a traductological object of study. The approach to this analysis is not restricted to mterlinguistic translation so as to show not only that all three types of translation as defined by Jakobson, that is, intralinguistc, interlinguistic and intersemiotic translation, occur in Arte, but that a fourth type that we shall call intrasemiotic translation can be found as well. This work explores how the interaction between the different traductological levels in Arte produces a discursive representation of the languages whose presence in the text is prevalent, Nahuatl and Castilian. © 2020 Vervuert Verlag.
