Resumen:
In this research, phase transformations and porosity formation were
analyzed for a heat-treated Cu-20Sn alloy. Reached porosity levels led
to introduce a new method for manufacturing Cu-Sn foams with micropores,
which could be part of a whole manufacturing process to obtain
hierarchical foams. Microporosity generation was possible by modifying
the conventional heat-treatment to the Cu-20Sn alloy, overheating it at
400, 550, 750 and 800 degrees C for 1, 3 and 5 h, followed by quenching
in water. In all cases, phase transformations took place, which was
analyzed using X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), Optical Microscopy (OM), and
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Results also showed the formation of
connected and not-connected pores, although extensive porosity was only
generated under certain conditions. The highest porosity was 21 %,
obtained for a heat-treatment of 750 degrees C during 1 h due to the
transformation of beta phase, reaching maxima pore sizes of-200 mu m.
