Resumen:
The value of comparison in urban research and its scarce presence in
Latin American literature, justifies its critical review. This paper
analyzes some comparative strategies that are, however, inoperative
without a solid and well-founded epistemological position. The
dialectical relationship between reality and knowledge, where both feed
off each other in a virtuous circle, is considered optimal. It is
concluded that only under these precepts, the comparison becomes a
valuable instrument to approach our own context from other points of
view and reveal the hidden facets and the essence of the concrete.
