Resumen:
We explored the Sierra El Pelado of the municipality of Acatlan, Puebla,
to contribute to the floristic knowledge of the area embedded within the
Cuenca del Balsas. Botanical samples were collected and identified with
the use of taxonomic keys and tools, and consults with specialists. We
recorded 339 species distributed in 225 genera and 67 families, being
102 species endemic to Mexico, but 8 restricted to the Cuenca del
Balsas, 2 of them to Acatlan. We report 36 species and 3 genera new
records to the floristic list of the state of Puebla, Jatropha riojae
was rediscovered and a new species of the genus Senna was discovered.
Fabaceae, Asteraceae, Malvaceae, Cactaceae and Euphorbiaceae, are the
richest families to the area whilst Bursera, Ipomoea, Tillandsia,
Mimosa, and Solanum are the genera with the highest number of species.
The seasonal dry tropical forest is the main vegetation type of the
area, at the highest altitude of the range and grassland in the ecotone
with the seasonal dry tropical forest was found. Secondary vegetation
due to the demand of agricultural lands in the area was found. The
predominant growth form is herbaceous, followed by shrubs and trees.
Common names to 94 species were recorded. Our results suggest continuing
the botanical exploration in the municipality to increase the vegetal
diversity knowledge and the creation of a natural protected area.
