Resumen:
Pretreatment with ? D methyl mannoside (? DMM) of mouse thymocytes which otherwise respond poorly to concanavalin A increases their response to the mitogen, as measured by incorporation of tritiated thymidine, to levels similar to those of good responding thymocytes, which are not affected by previous treatment with the saccharide. The observations are explained as the result of the mannoside unmasking Con A receptors by removing lectin like substances from the cell surface, although no significant change in the number of Con A receptors was found after treatment with the mannoside. It is possible that their number is small with respect to other Con A binding sites and thus their variations difficult to detect.
