Resumen:
The utilization of urea-treated corn stubble and the provision of protected methionine in diets for growing sheep was studied. Thirty two male two months old criollo lambs of 20 +/- 5kg in weight were assigned at random to four treatments: 1) 70% non-treated corn stubble (CS) and 30% concentrate (NTS); 2) 70% urea treated stubble -45kg urea diluted in 20 litters of water per 100kg of stubble) and 30% concentrate (UTS); 3) NTS with protected methionine (NTS+Met) and 4) UTS plus protected methionine (UTS+Met). No differences (P>0.05) were found between treatments in daily food consumption nor in daily weight gain or digestibility of dry or organic matter and crude protein. However, the treatment with stubble and urea increased (P<0.05) digestibility of neutral and acid detergent fiber, and of cellulose. No differences in pH or volatile fatty acids were observed between treatments, except for butyric acid, which was higher (P<0.01) in NTS than in UTS, but similar to NTS+Met at 60 days aft
