Resumen:
Porphyrins and their derivatives may find a variety of applications in biomedical fields due to their interesting photochemical and photophysical properties. A tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP)-based methacrylate monomer was synthesized and subsequently copolymerized with oligo(ethylene glycol) methacrylate to yield materials exhibiting thermoresponsiveness in aqueous solutions. The TPP-based monomer content ranged from ca. 1 to 6 molar percent in the copolymers. The cloud point of the copolymers in water was found to decrease with increasing amount of TPP content in the copolymers, ranging from 64 & DEG;C for the oligo(ethylene glycol)-based homopolymer to 57 & DEG;C for the copolymer with ca. 5 mol % TPP methacrylate monomer loading. Thus, the phase transition behavior can be tuned through the variation of the porphyrin-based monomer loading.
