Resumen:
This article presents the basic principles of Proclus’ complex and extraordinary conception of a philosophy of language; a holistic understanding, given its vast implications (theological, metaphysical, ethical, epistemological, cosmological and psychological, as well as hermeneutical, aesthetical and literary). Proclus’ views are expressly critical with a reductionism to logical analysis, developing a metaphysics of language that aims to its ethical and soteriological use, a copy of the paradigmatic logos of the gods: language is a demiurgic, ritual instrument by which reality is created, primarily by the gods and secondarily by us. Proclus’ philosophy of language is concretely illustrated by his conception about hymns as well as by his own composition of hymns and its practical ritual use of them. © 2020 Centro de Investigaciones Filosóficas.
