Resumen:
Polypyrrole (PP) provides a unique substrate for the design of surface materials with specific electrochemical properties. We have studied a number of methods for derivatizing PP films with electroactive species. The methodologies that have been developed to effect these modifications include: 1) chemical synthesis of derivatized pyrrole monomers followed by electrochemical polymerization, 2) electrochemical insertion of redox species simultaneous with polymerization, 3) covalent bonding to active sites of the polymer, and 4) copolymerizations of pyrrole with derivatized pyrrole monomers.
