Resumen:
The aim of this article is to bring into discussion Georg Simmel’s text On a Psychology of Shame (2018 [1901]) in light of a contemporary revision. Although I will retrieve several authors, I will focus on approaches from two authors: Ãgnes Heller and Sara Ahmed. I believe the convergence between proposals (Simmel, Heller, and Ahmed) agree with the approach on emotions plainly proposed by Ahmed who emphasizes in the performative and relational character of emotions, that is, in how emotions “do thingsâ€, are social products, and at the same time they have social effects. In that sense, my goal is to explain how –from Simmel’s perspective– it is also possible to establish a relational program for the analysis of emotions, and specifically for the articulation between emotions and body, in light of his proposal about feelings as second-order forms (Simmel, 2014; Cantó-Milà , 2012; Seebach, 2017). In this case, I will focus on how shame does things to the body since it is an “affective mark†of certain bonds. © 2019, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. All rights reserved.
