“El nudo matrimonial que con vos, mi señora, me ha hecho uno”: El curioso carácter doméstico/conyugal de la poesía amorosa de Eugenio de Salazar

Resumen:
This article focuses on the love poetry by Eugenio de Salazar, all of which —throughout the 180 folios of the first part of his Silva de poesía— is dedicated to his wife, doña Catalina Carrillo. I show that this represents a significant deviation from the Petrarchan model, in which the muse/beloved woman is, fundamentally, an unattainable figure, and I consider how the curious domestic/conjugal nature of his love poetry allows him to introduce ingenious variations into the genre. Specifically, I analyze two poetic series from the first part of the Silva in order to exemplify the great originality that characterizes Salazar’s approach to conventional themes in amorous Petrarchism. © 2019 Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico.
