Resumen:
Here we present an updated species list of native non-flying mammals in
Los Tuxtlas region, Veracruz, a complex and environmentally relevant
region for its biodiversity which has lost most of its original forest
and is now under negative pressures which affect its natural communities
and species, and thus modify the alfa, beta and gamma diversity
patterns. Updated distribution and taxonomic information are basic for
programs concerning environmental management and conservation among
other studies. The list we present is based upon the revision of
specimens deposited in scientific collections of Instituto de Biologia,
Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and Instituto de
Investigaciones Biologicas, Universidad Veracruzana, in national and
international online databases. In this manner, we confirm therefore the
presence of 52 species of non-flying mammals and discard 9 species still
not confirmed yet in this region, but mentioned in various previous
bibliographic sources.
