Resumen:
A number of Mexican scholarly journals registered in Latindex is
analyzed in order to know their main features and lay out a prospective.
A revision of editorial data and editorial quality indicators was made
using the Directory and the Catalog respectively, as well as the ways in
which online journals are accessed and distributed. Results highlight: a
proliferation of periodicals; the role of higher education institutions
as major publishers; preeminence of journals of Social Sciences and
scientific dissemination; limited use of English language; good
visibility in regional databases; adoption of quality criteria and a
tendency to create more free and open- access online journals.
