Resumen:
Background: Sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Biomarkers helps for the diagnosis and monitoring of sepsis, uric acid (UA) is an accessible and unexpensive biomarker. Objective: this work is to determine the correlation of delta uric acid with the severity of sepsis. Material and method: We performed an analytical study, open, prospective and longitudinal in patients over 18 who met criteria for sepsis as the campaign to implement the survival of sepsis, we excluded patients with a history of gout, with parenteral nutrition or diet rich in amino acids hyperproteic. For statistical analysis, analytical and statistical tests using Pearson correlation. Results: We included 38 patients aged 19-85 years (m = 50), 53% (n = 20) were men and 47% (n = 18) women. The main diagnoses were pneumonia and soft tissue infection. The AU group decreased APACHE II <20 (3.9) and =20 (3.1) (p = 0.012). The delta 3.3mg/dL AU was in the group of septic shock vs. 1.7mg/dL in the sepsis group (p = 0.045). Conclusions: The delta UA is an accesible and unexpensive marker and to assess the severity and mortality of sepsis.
