Resumen:
The influence of temperature and salinity on the composition and abundance of ichthyoplankton of the entrance of the new channel of Tampamachoco lagoon of Veracruz, Mexico from December 2003 to May 2004, was studied during the dry season. Horizontal drags were carried out biweekly at 17:00, 19:00, 20:00, 22:00 and 24:00, with a conical net of 2 meters of length, 0.5 meters of diameter, a mesh of 500 ?m, equipped with flowmeter to measure the volume of filtered water, registering the temperature and salinity of each sample. A total of 60 samples were obtained, these samples were quantified and identified, expressing the abundance in number of larvae/100m3. The temperature and salinity increased during the season with minimum readings in December and maximum ones in May. A total of 51,269 fish larvae were quantified, identifying 16 families, with the greatest number of these in December and April. The total ichthyoplanktonic abundance was 3,413.36 NL/100 m3 with two months of maximum abundance determined by the alternated dominance of the Gobiidae familiae (48,92 % IVI) in December, and Engraulidae (37,81 % IVI) in May, related to the minimum and maximum records of temperature and salinity. The explanation of this process is based upon the biological cycles of the dominant families and their degrees of tolerance to temperature and salinity. Three new families were registered: Microdesmidae, Batrachoididae and Cynoglossidae. The greatest abundance occurred during sunset and evening, reflecting reproductive strategies of feeding and survival.
