Proliferation of peripheral blood leukocytes in the presence of serum from patients with uterine cervix cancer and recombinant interleukin-2 [PROLIFERACION DE LEUCOCITOS DE SANGRE PERIFERICA EN PRESENCIA DE SUEROS DE PACIENTES CON CANCER CER

Resumen:
Several studies have focused their efforts on the establishment of a technique capable to activate in a specific way the patients lymphocytes against their own tumour cells. This specific activity has been occasionally achieved through lymphocyte activation with endogenous mitogens like interleukin-2 (IL-2). However on the other hand it has also been shown that some tumours secrete to the blood stream inhibitory factors to this type of immune response. In order to determine whether cervical cancer cells release to the blood stream lymphocyte inhibitory growth factors, in this work we used 12 sera from patients with cervical cancer (CaCu) in cultures of peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL). To test the possible inhibition of these sera on leukocyte activation mediated by IL-2 we used LSP from CaCu patients as well as from healthy blood donors. In vitro we did not find any growth inhibitory activity of neither PBLs from CaCu patients or from the donors in the presence of IL-2, when using either the patients or donor sera. These results may suggest that the CaCu malignant cells do not secrete PBL growth inhibitory factors, and that the lymphocytes from the CaCu patients have not lost their capability to be activated by IL-2.
