Resumen:
The problem of scattering of SH waves by inhomogeneous surface obstacles of arbitrary shape in a half-space is studied theoretically, and numerically for various geometries. Existence and uniqueness of the solution, given as a series of special functions, is established using singular operator theory. A least-squares fit on the obstacle's boundary is used to compute the series coefficients. Within the theoretical framework, a numerical scheme, related to Courant's or penalty's methods, reduces the order of the system of equations to be solved. Various error criteria are discussed.
