Resumen:
This paper provides a perspective on current applications of reliability methods in the analysis of offshore platforms and development of design guidelines. Permanent, bottom-supported structures that are used in the development and production of offshore hydrocarbon reserves are considered. Advantages and limitations of present reliability methods are discussed, and the need for, and direction of, future research that will strengthen existing methods is outlined. Emphasis of this paper is directed toward increasing the understanding of reliability methods by practicing design engineers. © ASCE.
