Resumen:
Recent studies of the Asclepiadoideae (Apocynaceae) in southern and western Mexico have revealed a new species here described and illustrated as Gonolobus spiranthus Juarez-Jaimes, W. D. Stevens & Lozada-Perez. This species is distinguished by having a tubular corolla more than 12 mm long that is inflated at the base, strongly spiraled corolla lobes, and dorsal anther appendages that are triangular and sagittate as well as fleshy. The lack of a faucal annulus in the corolla includes it in the subgenus Pseudolachnostoma Woodson. © 2009 Missouri Botanical Garden.
