Resumen:
Prosocial parenting practices involve maternal and paternal comportments
that promote helping behaviors towards others. The objective of the
current study was to design and validate a prosocial parenting practices
scale (ProPPS). Initially focus groups were conducted in order to
identify maternal and paternal practices that promote prosocial behavior
in children and adolescents, these were used to design the scale. The
ProPPS was applied to 204 participants (51.5% female) between 10 and 13
years old. To assess the psychometric characteristics of the scale we
used exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and Cronbach's alpha coefficient.
The final version of the scale separately measured maternal and paternal
practices, which were grouped into three factors: 1) support and
prosocial communication, 2) rewards and 3) physical punishment. The
results showed that the ProPPS has sufficient validity and reliability,
so it can be used both in research and intervention programs.
