Resumen:
The study of the Spin crossover (SCO) materials began in the early 1930’s. After eight decades, different research groups developed strategies for the synthesis of SCO materials. Recently Gütlich has proposed a few rules as requirement for designing SCO materials. In this paper we present a brief description of the main strategies, their relation to Gütlich’s rules and their respective validation according to Crystal-fled theory and Molecular Orbital theory, including the definition of the Cooperatively Model. It is briefly exposed the state of the art and future perspectives of SCO materials and their applications. © Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
