Resumen:
The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of systematically varying the proportion of response-dependent/independent water reinforcement on the water-producing response in a schedule-induced drinking procedure. Three food-deprived rats were exposed to a schedule of water reinforcement Random Interval 8 s. Concurrently, food was delivered according to a Random Time 64 s schedule during all the experiment. In successive conditions, the response-dependent/independent percentages of water-reinforcement varied from 100/0 to 75/25, 50/50, 25/75 and 0/100%. The frequency of the water-producing response diminished in all the subjects as a function of increasing the proportion response-independent water delivery. These findings show that water reinforces directly the water-producing response in the schedule-induced drinking procedure.
